Community movie screening ‘Cry Freedom’

October 6 @ 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm

Cry freedom

Sophiatown National Heritage House is hosting a Free community movie screening of ‘Cry Freedom’.

This 1987 South African drama directed by Richard Attenborough, set in late-1970s apartheid era South Africa, centres on the real-life events involving black activist Steve Biko and his friend Donald Woods.  The screenplay is based on a pair of books by Woods written after his own escape into exile.

The screening complements the current Steve Biko exhibition showing until 1 November, marking 40 years since Biko’s killing and the 30th anniversary of the award winning film, whose sound track was written by Jonas Gwangwa.

In partnership with the Donald Woods Foundation
